Our atmosphere is composed mainly of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%), and argon (1%). It is an almost infinite source of free oxygen. Using a new-generation ceramic membrane, ION converts molecular oxygen gas into ionized oxygen atoms using an electrochemical process. On contact with the membrane, the atoms are immediately attracted to the front face of a solid ceramic crystal, capable of accepting only oxygen ions. A small applied DC voltage (less than 1 volt) ionizes the oxygen molecules and forces the ions to migrate through the ceramic crystal. They then emerge on the back side of the ceramic membrane and are immediately recombined into oxygen molecules.
